Field, Name, Logo & Going Live

Dear Reader,

So, you finally pulled the trigger and got that business started, right? No? What is it that you enjoy doing? What are your skills? Find something that you like doing on a daily basis and see how you can create a workplace for yourself. It may sound weird, it may be scary, or intimidating, but the final outcome will be so fulfilling, you'll wonder why you didn't start sooner!

- Construction
- Woodworking
- Painting
- Technology
- Health & Fitness
- Gaming

There are a lot of options out there, and in the modern world, there are so many ways to go about it! Start simple and work your way up:

- Pick your area of expertise
- Think of a name and logo
- Go to a lawyer and incorporate
- Open a business bank account
- Website

Congrats! You just took the first few steps towards achieving your goal. Simple right? It is! Honestly, this part doesn't cost that much. There are tools online for anyone and everyone, as well as YouTube tutorials behind logo creation, that you should be able to do for yourself, literally FREE. Logo creation specifically. As far as incorporating, create a few different names, in case the name you chose is taken. You want to keep it simple and straight forward. Here's my example:

- BARBELL FITNESS, CO.
- Barbell Fitness Company
- BBF, CO.

These are all legally incorporated names that can be used, although one is legally registered with the Secretary of State, there is something called DBA or "doing business as" name. Let's say you want to start a painting business and sell on Etsy:

- My Art Incorporated
- My Art, Inc.
- MA, Inc.
- MYART

Just an example but you should discuss with your lawyer, chances are they will help you out greatly in setting up a proper name, all while explaining to you the differences between corporate names and DBA names. Onto logo creation! I started very simply, with the help of this website, called logomakr. It's a great tool to give you a nice visual and potential for creation. Spend some time on this, and again, keep it simple and recognizable. Once you have a logo, and you put it on a website or a business card, you would like people to associate that logo with your business. Speaking of websites, that's something you should consider as well. In modern day, a business without a working website, cannot be as successful as one that does have a web address. These are usually not that expensive to own, if you purchase one through Google it may cost around $12 for the year, depending on the name and availability. My website was created using Wix and I'm happy I used them. You may have the option to purchase a domain name from them directly. It's a great all in one place for everything you would need. Take some time to think and plan ahead first before jumping right in.

Cheers!

The SMART Plan

Dear Reader, You've probably head this one before in school at some point: create a SMART goal. To break it down, here is what a SMART goal is: S: specific M: measurable A: attainable R: realistic T: timely My definitions might a bit different, but they work for me specifically. Put this in words that YOU can understand, remember, and in a way to help you stay on track. A specific goal you would want to reach, and since this will be fitness related, I'll stay to that tone and environment. A specific goal would be something like "I want to lose 30 pounds" - specific, right? There's a number, there's value to it to, might pose a few questions but its there. Measurable: self-explanatory. Something you can measure. Not just the 30 pounds by itself, but you can measure it in other ways like jeans for waist size. Or your favorite shirt but can't fit in it anymore. Maybe it doesn't have a value, but you can measure it by trying out clothes. Attaina...

First Things First

Dear Reader, "Who the heck is this guy writing blog posts about starting a business? What does he know?" You might be asking yourself a few questions, or perhaps, asking me or would like to know. Feel free to skip this post, I'll just give you a bit of a background on me, who I am, where I come from, some of my experiences, education, motives, and desires to pursue a career of my own - since there doesn't seem to be a job out there for me, nor do I feel like working as a corporate dog and waiting for my treat. Yes, definitely might not be as lucrative, but there's more to life than just money - and these are the words coming out from a twenty-eight-year-old who still lives with his parents and has three cents in his savings account. My great-grandmother was born in Chicagoland suburbs, somewhere. Not sure, never asked, never bothered, but would like to find out more. She moved out to Europe in the early 1900s, to Poland. My grandmother was born there and ca...
